Graduate Programs

Graduate student writing on a white board

The mathematics department supports an intimate and vibrant graduate program with faculty active in both pure and applied mathematics. Our graduate courses and research seminars provide a supportive atmosphere for collaborative learning and research. With faculty active in a variety of areas of research, graduate students have many opportunities to get involved in work that interests them.

Tufts students also benefit from our location in the Boston area, which is rich in the area of mathematical scholarship. Students can cross-register to take classes at other local universities, such as Brandeis, Boston University, MIT, Harvard, and Boston College, and collaborate with scholars from other institutions on research projects.

The department has three graduate student groups: the Organization of Graduate Students in Mathematics (OGSM), the SIAM student chapter, and the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) student chapter. We have active seminars in many fields of mathematics for both faculty and students. We also have weekly trivia nights, game nights, and a summer softball league.
