My main areas of expertise are in geometric group theory and modeling of Epstein-Barr virus.

My interest in geometric group theory stems from graduate school when I first read Cannon's beautiful paper, "The combinatorial structure of cocompact discrete hyperbolic groups." This was a revelation - there was a way to do mathematics and get significant results out of simple, clear geometric arguments. In this vein, I have done work in growth of groups and automatic and hyperbolic groups, e.g., http://arxiv.org/abs/0706.3024.

For the most part, Epstein-Barr virus is a pretty cool virus. Almost all of us have it, we carry it for life and most of us never have any symptoms from it. EBV piggy-backs on normal B-cell biology to reside in these cells. It is largely quiescent in memory blood cells, but transits a cycle of stages of B-cell life. This give the host-pathogen interactions an interesting structure as a dynamical system which we analyze here http://arxiv.org/abs/1005.0332.
